The Loacker Sustainability Strategy is based on our corporate values, our mission and vision, and on our understanding of sustainable business practices.
With the aim to systematically carrying forward our sustainability agenda, five particularly important fields of action were identified based on our key sustainability topics. These fields of action are of high strategic importance to the company and are anchored in the Loacker 2030 corporate strategy.
First-hand raw materials:
We take great social and ecological responsibility when dealing with our most important raw materials.
Preserving our planet:
We’re transparently recording our carbon footprint and implementing reduction measures.
Conserving our goodness:
We pursue two goals: the recyclability of our packaging and the avoidance of unnecessary packaging.
Taste the goodness inside:
Well-being, joy of living, and conscious, natural indulgence: We are committed to promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle through our new line of products.
Working hand in hand:
We foster a transparent, value-based, and inclusive corporate culture in a meaningful environment.
The core ingredients contained in our recipes are hazelnuts, cocoa, vanilla and milk. For all of them, we have set up sustainability projects that focus on ensuring better living conditions for the farmers and agricultural practices that preserve the environment. We make sure that genetically modified organisms are not present in any of our ingredients. Our new recipes are NON-GMO. The external certification organization FoodChain ID controls the management system and procedures every year.
Our electricity supply is 100% green (wind and water). In May 2011, a photovoltaic system was installed at the Unterinn production site, and in 2021 another photovoltaic system was installed at the Heinfels production site.
We recycle the waste heat from the baking process in all our manufacturing facilities. Through the use of heat-recovery systems we can use the heat from the ovens to heat the production areas and to provide hot water. Together with our transport partner, we ensure diesel-fueled trucks are used for transport. By doing so, we achieve CO2 savings of up to 20%. We also aim to use liquid nitrogen gas-fueled trucks (LNG) allowing us to reduce emissions by 100%.
To deliver a perfect, crispy product to our consumers even after travelling across the globe, we need high-quality packaging films. These must meet very demanding goals, such as humidity barriers, protection from changes in temperature, and legal frameworks.
2021, we have succeeded in further reducing the amount of plastic in our packaging (up to -15% on average) without compromising on quality or shelf life: the films are thinner, but offer the same protection against pressure, moisture and gases. In addition, the first paper-based packaging of our Wellness and Wellbeing line "Multigrain" and "30% less sugar" was launched in 2022.
We have a number of programs in place to foster our employees’ personal and professional growth and also to strive for retaining employees for the long term. Some of these programs include the annual performance review, academy training programs, prevention and well-being initiatives and a trained emergency response team.
